Private boat charter from Portmagee

Your own boat and skipper

A private charter gives your group its own boat and skipper. You choose where to go and how long to spend at each place.

Charters suit families, groups of friends, photographers and birdwatchers who want more time than a scheduled trip allows.

We arrange every charter on request. Call or email us with your dates, the size of your group and what you would like to see.

Where you can go

These are the places most groups ask for. Your skipper will tell you what is possible on the day.

  • The Skellig Islands. Sail around Skellig Michael and Little Skellig. Little Skellig has one of the biggest gannet colonies in the world.
  • Puffin Island. A seabird reserve with thousands of puffins, Manx shearwaters and storm petrels. Read about our Puffin Island and Kerry Cliffs trip.
  • The Kerry Cliffs. Sandstone cliffs that rise more than 300 metres from the sea.
  • Portmagee harbour and Valentia Island. Pass under the Valentia Island bridge and see the village from the water. Read about our Portmagee harbour tour.
  • Whales and dolphins. Spend longer at sea looking for dolphins, whales and basking sharks. Read about our whale and dolphin watching trip.

Landing on Skellig Michael is only possible on licensed landing trips. If you want to land, book our Skellig Michael landing tour.

Planning your charter

  • Your group. Tell us how many people are coming and their ages, so we can plan the right trip.
  • Your interests. Let us know if you want to focus on birds, photography or the islands.
  • Time on the water. Choose a short trip or a longer one, depending on what you want to see.
  • Weather. All trips depend on safe sea conditions. If we cancel for weather, we offer you another date or a full refund.

What to bring

  • Warm and waterproof layers. It is colder and windier on the water than on land.
  • Flat shoes with good grip. Decks can be slippery.
  • Binoculars. Useful for seabirds and wildlife.
  • A strap for your camera or phone. The boat moves and the wind is strong.
  • Seasickness remedy. If you need one, take it before you sail.

We provide life jackets for everyone.
